Driver Charged In Injury To Harrison Man

Sheriff James Darling announced the arrest of Donald Gerhardt 39 for leaving the scene in a crash that injured Frank Coil 42 near Harrison. Coil was found unconscious Wednesday night near Old US-27 and transported to Bay City Mercy hospital with serious head and internal injuries. Gerhardt appeared in District Court and bond was set at 2500 dollars. arraignment planned for Thursday with Gerhardt representing himself.

Eye and hearing screening in three day schedule

The District Health Department will screen preschool children for vision and hearing defects in a three day schedule at Clare Elementary School on April 29 and 30. Open to boys and girls ages three and a half to five not in school.

Sundown Theater Reopens Under Eisner Ownership

Sundown drive in theater near Clare is purchased and rebuilt under Sun Down corporation led by President Steve Hisner. The grand opening drew crowds Friday Saturday and Sunday with seven motorcycle stories and four cartoons. First run pictures will be shown only on weekends until mid May when full time operation begins. The policy excludes horror films and objectionable spectacles. Free passes and popcorn were distributed.

Four Clare Public School students Joe Hough Wendy Hillebrand Marie Davis and Marsha Brubaker received Certificates of Merit from the Detroit Free Press for outstanding performance in the 1968 69 Michigan High School Forensic Association debate series sponsored by the Free Press and the University of Michigan.

Rotary District Assembly Set for June 19 in Clare

Rotary District here will host the District Assembly with visitors from surrounding Michigan clubs expected June 19. Six to ten members from each club could bring attendance over 100, presided by the District Governor. Volunteer help from Rotary members is sought to welcome guests. Jamies Babcock, Farwell candidate for next year’s governor, lost his bid at last month’s conference. Trooper Bush of the Mt. Pleasant State Police Post spoke on teen drug use at the lunch program, introduced by Murray Miller. This week’s program was assigned to Keith Scott.
