Supreme Court To Send Interim Judge For Probate Here
Clare County will appoint an interim probate judge after Judge Robert Campbell leaves May 1 to join the Clare Isabella Midland Circuit Court bench. Attorney Bourke Wilmot of Gladwin may accept a one day a week post if workload allows, otherwise visiting judges may assist Haris on a temporary basis. Governor Romney will call a special election for a permanent probate judge and county officials will propose the election date. Campbell has assisted Isabella and Midland courts during illness.

A Clare Gladwin feasibility study recommends submitting the 2 year college proposal to the State Superintendent with a local vote. The plan, unchanged in outline, seeks 1.5 mills property tax and aims to educate youth, finish high school dropouts, offer two years of college, and retrain workers. The study group will become the Education Action Committee to educate voters before the election on creating such a school.

Clare High standout John Dunlop clocked 52.2 seconds for the quarter mile to set a new school mark the 39 year old record. In a meet involving Clare Chesaning and St. Louis on April 14 he also topped a previous Clare era record held by Wally Johnson, who ran 33 seconds in 1926.
