Arthur Township Pioneer Laid at Rest
Sophia Hildebrandt a longtime Arthur township resident died at home Monday. Born January 18 1858 in Ann Arbor she died April 9 1945 at age 87 years 2 months 21 days. She married William Hildebrandt and lived in Clare county 53 years. Surviving are seven sons two daughters eight grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral Thurs April 12 at 2 30 pm Thurston's Funeral Home with Rev Chas Kleinhardt officiating burial Cherry Grove cemetery. Out of town attendees listed.

Consumers urged to conserve coal fuel for coming year
Area Solid Fuels Administration official urges residential coal and coke users to file consumer declarations with their dealers between April 1 and May 15 to receive preferential treatment. He notes regulations require at least 30 percent of a normal year's supply be delivered before October 1 and warn that more than 80 percent cannot be delivered after April 1.

Clare Fire Department Answers Two Calls This Week
The Clare Fire Department responded to two incidents last week. At Martin Loomis Machine Shop a welding spark ignited gasoline near a carburetor, but workers contained the blaze before firefighters arrived. Later at Lone Pines Restaurant gas vented and caught fire in an oven. fire crews shut off the gas and stopped the blaze with minimal damage. Firefighter Roy Beltinck injured his legs fleeing a fallen power line while en route and is recovering at home.

Raymond Dwyer Killed in Action in Pacific
Raymond Allan Dwyer, Shipfitter First Glass U S Naval Reserve, was killed in action in the Pacific March 19 and buried at sea March 20. He grew up in Clare and worked at Willow Run before enlisting in 1944. He left behind his wife Helen and two sons, plus parents, siblings, and extended family. Memorial rites were held at St Cecilia's Church with an American flag presented to Mrs Dwyer by Walter H Larman Post 128 American Legion.
