Little League tryouts set for this Saturday at the field
Bernie Wilson the league secretary says tryouts fill vacancies on Little League teams for older boys or those who moved away. Players who were on a team last year need not attend. Mrs Garthe's third graders toured the post office Tuesday and learned about mail care. The Sentinel received a cartoon pamphlet on the nation's traffic toll noting Saturday as the most dangerous day, especially 4 pm to 8 pm.

Fatal roadside shooting ends quarrel between Potter and Chambers

Swan Rescued From Fox by Local Farmer
A white swan fleeing a fox was saved by Don Dalton on his farm near Clare. Dalton chased away the fox and, noting the swan could not fly, notified conservation officer Don Bell. The bird was examined by Dr. Neil Stirling who found no injuries and presumed fatigue before a public viewing and release near Clare.
