Armentrout Farm Home Destroyed In Eagle Blaze
Sunday afternoon the Armentrout farm in Eagle burned to the ground leaving only stone walls. Mrs. Armentrout and granddaughter Jill Calkins were at home when a friend noticed the fire. Neighbors and Clare Fire Department aided in saving some first floor furniture. insurance will cover only a small portion. The Armentrouts have since moved to the Ernest Kleiner farm stone house.

Two Farwell men Hubert Phipps and Leon Schlafley opened a plumbing heating and air conditioning sales service in the former George Lehr appliance building on East Fourth Street. They will service commercial and home refrigeration equipment and carry York and Crane lines. Phipps, a Farwell High School grad, studied refrigeration at Utilities Engineering Institute in Chicago and will do installing work. Schlafley, also an FHS graduate, has three years plumbing experience and pursues a state license.

Third graders of Clare Public School presented The Little Cook and Pumpkin Seed at a PTA meeting directed by new teacher Mrs Whitford. Pupils designed costumes and recently appeared on Cadillac TV Station. PTA approved grants totaling 330 dollars covering a tape recorder band milk fund and an exchange student trip. New officers were installed for the coming year. Annual Parent-Teacher conferences were announced for Kindergarten through Fifth grade with dates in April and May.
