Clare School Board Advances Curricular and Facility Plans

The Clare Board of Education met weekly with a crowded agenda approving up to eight years credit for former teaching service, hiring a second instrumental music teacher for 1967 68, and adding a small engines mechanics course with equipment purchase. They also approved large aluminum lettering for the gym exterior, moved toward bids for three replacement buses, and authorized classroom relocations and a tentative 1967-68 budget amid expectations of state aid and local tax needs.

Glare City approves water sewer rate increase

The Glare City Commission voted to set residential water and sewer rates at 56 per year for 740 unmetered homes. Industrial rates rise to 12.15 per 20 000 gallons, with heavier usage billed higher. Separate water and sewer charges will bring added revenue to cover bond payments.

Air Views On Community Recreation Here

A Clare Business and Professional Women's Club meeting at the Doherty Hotel featured a nine person panel on Community Recreation with moderator George Devenny of WORM leading the discussion. Panelists included Allan Dighera Malcolm Elliott Ken McLaughlin and local officials Mayor Willard Koch Ken Barnes Mrs Pat Maxwell Ruth Franstead Ray Owens. The discussion stressed that recreation means different things to different people and that everyone has a prime interest in the topic. Page A-5

Little League Tryouts Set Dates This Spring

Tryouts announced with a rule that players not in a Major or Senior Division last year must try out or play in the Minor League. Boys aged 10 by July 31 compete April 17 at 6 p.m. while those 11 or 12 compete April 18 at 6 p.m. on the Clare Elementary School playground.

Apportionment Waits U.S. Court Ruling

The Michigan Supreme Court ruled that county reapportionment plans are unconstitutional under the state constitution. Clare county and other counties pause after an advisory 5 to 3 decision, awaiting a forthcoming U.S. Supreme Court ruling that could shape future representation. Local boards may file plans and then hold them, pending higher court guidance.

Giant expands in Michigan by buying Hamady in Midland

Gail Cogdill to Speak at CHS Kiwanis Award Banquet

Gail Cogdill, veteran Detroit Lions player, will headline the CHS Kiwanis Awards Banquet on Wednesday evening April 19. The event honors one senior for sports, scholarship and overall achievement, with last year’s winner Royce Cole. Prize Bands On Stage For Concert Tonight

Clare's Junior High bands present an annual concert at the high school gymnasium with seven numbers per band including top regional festival selections. District solo ensemble results show 15 firsts seven seconds and one third across grades six to nine. Recordings of tonight's concert will finalize Clare's first band souvenir record with orders taken at the event.

Collins Fund Created to Aid Students in Memory of Allman Collins

The Clare County Intermediate Board of Education announced a six year student aid and scholarship fund in memory of the late Allman Collins. Collins is noted for leadership in local education and in the effort to establish Mid Michigan Community College. The fund is sponsored by the College Board and the education board.

John Brubaker, supervisor at Harrison from Arthur township, was elected Board chairman as the April session opened. He previously served as chairman after the death of Stuart Huntley and has held the chair pro tem post. First orders include naming all regular and special committees this week.

The Clare High School Speech Department under Forrest B Meek presents a stage adaptation of Reginald Rose Television play The Remarkable Incident on Thursday April 20 1967 at 8 00 pm in the Clare Elementary Auditorium. A small town holds a high school trial to accuse a janitor of murder and builds to a tense climax. Tickets at the door.

Farwell Seniors Awarded State Scholarships
