Recreation needs panel to discuss Clare program

Pinewood Derby Highlights at Clare Cub Scout Pack 3620

Clare Cub Scout Pack 3620 met March 27 at St Cecilia Church for its monthly gathering. Pinewood Derby crowns went to Dennis Dalton for first place and workmanship, Michel Collom took second, Mike Hales third, Mark Hales earned best design, and Joe Schroeder won first for workmanship.

Three Commission Members Re-elected in City Election

After the April 3 vote three incumbents retained seats with low turnout. Ray Owens led with 219 votes, Robert Walters 217, and Roy Dunbar won a one year term with 214. Willard Bell and Wendel Colvin trailed, while Koch and Bradley keep terms through 1968. Unofficial totals planned canvassing and seating.

Clare City Commission Delays Action on Water Rate Hike

The Clare City Commission postponed final action on raising water and sewer rates after a review of a Norton Gourdie report. A special meeting is planned next week to set new rates as domestic unmetered bills would rise from 28 to 36.40 for water and 9.33 to 29.00 for sewer, with a total home bill around 65.40 in three payments.

Appointment of three to Clare County Tax Allocation Board

The 1967 Clare County Tax Allocation Board will add three members named by Judge Alex Strange of the Probate Court. Appointees are James Babcock president of the Farwell Board of Education Arnold Stamman Harrison representative of municipal government and Robert Carter the representative at large. The Probate Court annually appoints three members to join existing county officials on the board.

Registration for Little League Boys at Clare High School

Little League registration for boys will be held April 10 from 6 to 8 PM at Clare High School. The fee is 1.00 per boy and a parent must accompany each participant. Eligible ages are eight by July 31 or younger and sixteen by August 1 or older.

Electric Car Mars II Demonstration At Clare

An experimental Mars II electric car by Electric Fuel Propulsion from Ferndale visited Clare with 45 to 50 onlookers. Robert Aronson outlined a 340 mile hypothetical trip costing about 6 dollars in battery recharging and depreciation, noting limited charging stations and promising built in and external fast chargers. The car delivers 0 to 40 mph in ten seconds, top speed 60 mph, and uses a 15 horsepower motor with a 12 volt auxiliary battery for lights and systems.

Coleman Seeks Three Appointees to School Board

Henry Ranck resigned from the Coleman Board of Education on April 1 to become Wise Township Supervisor. The board seeks public spirited applicants to fill the vacancy until the June 12 election, when candidates will run for the two year term. Nominating petitions are available at the Superintendent’s office.

Mrs Fleming Honored At Retirement Dinner

Mrs. Harold Fleming was honored at a surprise retirement dinner for her many years at Clare School. The Clare Education Association organized the event with cooperation from the administration, secretaries, custodians and school board, held in Congregational social rooms with 86 attendees. Albert Schumm served as toastmaster and Lloyd Conley accompanied songs on the piano.
