Weather and streams shape opening weekend plans for trout season. Conservation officials expect up to 100000 fishermen on northern waters if conditions hold. Trout planting could reach 250000 legal-size fish before opening day amid access sites and camping areas. Local licenses: residents 1.50 plus 1 trout stamp. nonresidents 38 annual or 2 temporary plus 1 stamp.
O. D. Sonny Robison, son of Mrs. J. R. Nevil and the late Durward Robison, died April 2 1951 at Veterans Hospital Dearborn Michigan. Born October 7 1919 in Sheridan township Clare county he lived most of his life there. He served nearly five years in the Armed Forces including two in the Pacific with the 142 Field Army. A brief VFW service was held at the East Detroit Chapel. He leaves his wife Waldrean, his mother and stepfather, four sisters and three stepsisters. Clare P T A schedules a Monday meeting on April 16 in the home economics room at Clare Public School. Reports of the School of Instruction will be shared and the Art Department will present a program segment.
At a special meeting last Thursday the City Commission named John Davy and Karl Morgan to canvass the April 2 election results. Howard M. Hiverts and Charles C. Cooper were confirmed for two year terms and Wm. C. McConica for one year. The present body will finish business at Monday's regular session, then the new commission will be sworn in and assume office. The mayor will be chosen from the commission as provided by the City Charter.
Clare High School announces top finishers at the District Speech Tournament in Reed City. Joan Raymond won first in oratory after earning a University of Michigan scholarship, and junior William Wentworth took second in extemporary speaking.
The Conservation Department will offer wild lands and platted lots for sale at the Roscommon Courthouse on May 17 at 10 00 a m. The public sale includes parcels in Clare County and other areas as listed for auction.
State parks prepare for 11,000,000 plus visitors across 60 parks and recreation areas in Michigan. Northern locations face lingering winter delays and ranger shortages from military drafts and funds. Crews fix picnic tables, signs, play areas, and docks while major improvements await summer completion. Memorial Day marks lifeguards on southern beaches and camping fees apply for tents and trailers.
A gospel quartet led by Mr and Mrs Floyd Seiter of Rosepush and Mr and Mrs Frank Beaver ort of Romeo will perform at Clare Methodist Church at 8 00 PM Sunday. Mrs Seiter accompanies on accordion and readings will be included. This marks the quartet’s first Clare appearance despite prior church page notice of no services.
The Clare Kiwanis Club met at Hotel Doherty with President Joe Grigware presiding. Art Bock presented a Barbershop group billed as the "shortest minstrel show in the world" that proved long on entertainment. Attys Harold Hughes and Robert Campbell attended as guests. Hal Johnston plans next week’s program featuring foreign students from Central Michigan College of Education.
The Girl Scouts met at the Methodist Church basement on April 9 for a 6 30 pot luck dinner. Mrs Nelda Jones played piano as The Morning Grace was sung. Officers named for the coming year were Mrs Theodore Hoersch president Mrs Hiram Grimason vice president Mrs William Jackson secretary and Mrs Wallace Johnson treasurer. The meeting featured solos a fashion show and group entertainment.
Freda Eschoenweck, a 13 year old Hoover School student in Flint, rescued three children from a fire Sunday night March 11. She unlocked a door and carried the three children to safety as smoke and flames filled the two room home.
Walter White of Vernon township died at his home on Monday April 9 at 7 00 AM aged 78 two months and 26 days He was born January 14 1873 in Kalamazoo county Michigan He married Nellie Brewer March 27 1895 in Vernon township They had four children survived by the wife Nellie sons Harold of Clare Paul of California Edward of Flushing two sisters and three brothers and seven grandchildren three great grandchildren Daughter Marcia died in 1900 Funeral services were held at 2 00 PM Thursday at the Congregational Church Rev Oscar Olson officiating burial at Cherry Grove cemetery Russell Thurston in charge of arrangements

Ted A. Hiles of Rural Lake will be the only man to leave Clare county April 28 for Detroit and final induction into the Armed Service. None have been called for pre induction physical examination during April or May and two are expected to be called from Clare county for final induction in May.
George West 24 Clare arrested for furnishing alcohol to minors and sentenced to 20 days in county jail. Henry Little 50 Clare pleaded guilty and faced 15 days jail or a $15 fine. Farwell trio Densmore Mills Haag pleaded guilty, fined $18.50 each, 90 days probation. Donald Miller 18 Rosebush and Orwin Baker 19 Rosebush pleaded guilty, fined $15 each.
The VFW Post and Auxiliary plan a public joint installation of officers at the post hall on April 18. New Auxiliary officers include Threace Wehrman as President and Isabelle Cooper as Junior Vice President. Post officers to be announced by Commander Charles Cooper. 75 members attended a recent dinner, held after improvements including a new kitchen, storeroom, tile floor, and interior redecorating at Tourist Park headquarters.
Work on excavation for the new bridge over Little Tobacco Creek stays on schedule. Grading and groundwork are expected to begin next week at the south end of the paving widening project on US-27. Detours via Clare streets will remain until needed to divert traffic to the one mile roads.

On March 31 seven band members participated in the state music contest in Ann Arbor. The brass sextet with Mari lyn Masten Irvin Ruby Sally Gillespie Barbara Thatcher Janet Bradley and John Bicknell led off at 5 30 a m. Sally Gillespie played a piano solo Jane Bicknell performed a flute solo and all seven members plus instructor Mr Collins attended multiple events. All Clare groups earned third ratings and congratulations were extended to the students for earning the right to attend the meeting.
