Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebrated by Cotton Family
The Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. B. N. Cotton was marked with a Saturday gathering at their daughter's home on April 4 1936. Granddaughters Ruth Archbold Bette Walker and Genevra Stottlemyer decorated the house in blue and gold. The Friday night to Sunday events included family day with many relatives present, except daughter Ethel Callahan and son Lester. Grandmother Cotton reached her 89th birthday milestone.

Directed by the Clare Society for Crippled Children the third annual Easter Seals sale started in Clare on April 1 and runs 15 days. Seals cost a penny each and fund discovery care education training placement and prevention for crippled children. Ninety percent of proceeds stay in Michigan to support handicapped children. ten percent goes to the International Society for Crippled Children Inc.

Richard C. Hayworth aged 49 years and 1 day died at Brandstetter hospital Mt Pleasant Monday. His body was moved to Friz Undertaking parlor Tuesday. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Church of God with Rev Fred Stevens of North Star officiating and burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Owosso Man Arrested For Driving While Drunk
Wim Wright of Owosso was arrested Wednesday night around 10 45 by State Police on a DWI charge. He pleaded guilty before Justice Kyle McKinnon and was fined 50 dollars with 8 dollars costs or thirty days in jail. The arrest occurred at the Pere Marquette crossing on McEwan street after his car allegedly swiped a cement signal abutment.

State Highway Dept Returns Weight Tax to Counties
Aud. Gen. John J. O'Hara and State Highway Commissioner Murray D. VanWagoner said first quarter weight tax vouchers total 11.49 million dollars, but counties will receive 9.46 million after an earlier 2.03 million advance. Payments are nearly 3 million above last year and six days ahead of the April 15 deadline. Ten counties will have allocations withheld until Sept. 30 settlements. delinquent counties are Alger Baraga Clare Gladwin Jackson Lake Oakland Macomb Sanilac and Van Buren.
