Mrs Mary Harris Succumbs After Illness in Saginaw
Mary Harris of Saginaw died April 5 after a month long illness at Saginaw General Hospital. She left husband Robert Harris, son Ervin Hall, daughter Blanch Duquette, seven grandchildren, and several siblings. Funeral services were held in Saginaw with interment in Warwell Surrey Cemetery. Camp Houghton Lake 684 Active in Reforestation
Camp Houghton 83 S was established in June 1953 in the Houghton Lake State Forest eight miles south of Houghton Lake and west of US 27. Advance detail arrived from Camp Custer on June 3 1933 with the remainder of Co C 684 by June 20. The camp was well situated amid timber land, near a highway, with three Forestry Division buildings forming its nucleus.

A large blaze at Calvin Arnold's barn three miles past Clare on US 27 destroyed 12 horses including five brood mares, 34 cattle with 12 milch cows, five pigs, 40 tons of hay, 170 bushes barley, and 120 bushes of certified seed oats. The 40 by 92 foot double sided barn valued at $4000 with $3500 total insurance, left the Arthur Pradley property at Herrick noted by locals.
