Harriger Receives Distinguished Service Cross for New Guinea Raid
Capt. Robert Harriger, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Harriger of Rosebush, is among six American air officers awarded the Distinguished Service Cross by Gen. Douglas MacArthur for a March 30 raid on Lae and Salamaua, New Guinea. The action damaged fifteen Japanese bombers and several Zero fighters, destroyed three seaplanes, and damaged airfield installations.

Herman Lange Dies at Clare Hospital After Fall
Herman Lange a Clare county pioneer longtime resident of Clare died at Clare Hospital Sunday from shock after a hip fracture suffered in his home on March 19 1943 He was eighty seven years ten months and fifteen days old Born in Bremen Germany May 19 1855 he came to America in 1881 and settled in Clare Michigan He leaves four children Rev Henry Lange William Anna Grandeman and Matilda with eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren His wife died July 26 1940 Funeral services were held April 7 at St Johns Lutheran Church and he is buried in Cherry Grove Cemetery

Seal Sale Opens April 10 Aids Crippled Children
Mrs Norris A Elden accepts chairmanship of the annual WBaster seal sale to benefit the Michigan Society for Crippled Children. The sale runs from April 10 through Easter with multiple civic volunteers named to committees in Clare Harrison Farwell and surrounding areas. The effort supports occupational therapy sheltered workshops vocational guidance training and placement for the crippled and disabled.

Boy Treated After Catbite Also Injured in Local Accidents
Nine year old Foster Onderkirk received first aid from Dr. G C Born then was taken to Northway Clinic in Mt Pleasant for catbite related lacerations and observation by Isabella county health officials. Other patients include Lyman Stittsworth with oil well injuries and X ray exams, James Mogg with back subluxation, Mrs Bill Bodgard with elbow injury, and John Radabaugh with a crushed finger. All are recovering satisfactorily under care.
