Special to The Times. New York February 17 John A Bensel state engineer refused to waive immunity this afternoon preparatory to grand jury testimony in the graft inquiry. Jurors seek details on highway barge and aqueduct contracts. Bensel declines comment. He has served on the board of water supply and later held posts in the state highway department.
An explosion damaged an express car attached to a Pennsylvania train traveling from Chicago to Cincinnati near Richmond Indiana. The blast partly destroyed the car and damaged valuable express matter in the thousands. The train halted at Sixtieth Street and the crew detached the car to prevent further damage as firemen and paceman aided in controlling the scene.
Albany Feb 11 1909 Governor Glynn's tenure as state comptroller from 1905 to 1908 will be examined by the Assembly probe committee chaired by John L. Sullivan. Sullivan declined to reveal specifics but stated the committee will investigate if any wrongdoing exists.
