San Francisco officer Silas Christoffersen arrived by biplane today after flying from the Teheachup and Coast Range. Seven men were demoted by order, while others were reassigned within the department.
Rose Perch of West Fifth Street fought a fire that started with a lace bow near a gas jet in a room of Bart Richardson on the second floor. She suffered severe burns to her hands before firefighters arrived as patrons below evacuated from Victoria moving picture theater. John Higgins, stoker with Engine Company 45, was burned while freeing an escape valve and was taken to City Hospital. He lives at 1361 Spring.
The Fabre Line liner Roma narrowly escaped a rocky reef near the Island of Man's Land after a northwest gale and snowstorm left passengers and crew in grave danger for over four hours. News from the ship's conductor station reported lifeboats and cutters racing to assist, with the vessel expected to reach port by Wednesday.
Norfolk reports a freezing northwest gale creating a winter storm as unknown vessels in distress are sighted. Revenue cutter Onondaga assists Mary E. Palmer and returns to sea to aid two steamers near Cape Henry while Teakwood and Camilla King drift ashore briefly and reach harbor with tug help. An e message from the disabled French liner Niagara reports she is 136 miles southwest of Browhead bound east under her own steam. She is escorted by two vessels unnamed in the message. The Niagara damaged a propeller days ago during a voyage from Havre to New York and turned back with 147 passengers aboard.
Safety Director Holmes announced changes to the detective bureau effective Wednesday February 1. Daniel Moriarity William Sweeney John Thomas John McDermott Roscoe Lewis Sameed Dalton Peter Schroeder and others were promoted to acting detectives while Henry Pottebaum Joseph Schafer Frank Hall Patrick Hayes Howard Greer Robert Ecker and James O'Brien were reduced to uniformed rank.

L. Stol Louis W. Pooch Otto Katz Amandus Horn and Gustav Muehler with Stol as president and Horn as secretary.
Hundreds witnessed the fatal plunge of aviator Murray over Pensacola Bay. The plane dipped from altitude near 100 feet, struck the water with force, wrecking the craft and ending the life of the pilot as spectators watched in horror.
Louis G. Smith a World War II veteran was killed and five others hurt when Dave Lewis and Edie Arneth driving the Fiat entry for the Grand Prix lost control at the Soldiers' Home near San Monica and plowed into spectators. The car went over a curb and struck the crowd after the 50 mph curve, injuring several.
A mob of fifty masked men halted an Illinois Central train at Love Station Mississippi. They took two Black men from Sheriff F Nichols, Buck alias Johnson and Phillips, accused of ambushing J Ingram three weeks earlier. The train proceeded to Hernando after the kidnapping and threats.
Fire caused by unknown source gutted the Columbia Congregational Church at 3910 Eastern Avenue. Fire teams fought the blaze, water froze in cold weather delaying response. The Bible was saved by trustees and a church member as flames reached the altar area. No furnace fire. investigation to determine cause.
Washington reports a House Interstate Commerce Committee meeting ordered major changes in the administration anti-trust program. A proposed interstate trade commission will be created and the measure redrafted. The changes limit the commission's activities over operations with gross receipts of two million dollars or more and affect railroad and interstate carrier competition.
