Niagara steamer towed into Havre after punishing voyage
Special to The American Havre February 48 The French Line liner Niagara reached Havre after striking heavy seas on the way to New York. Around 150 passengers and crew were exhausted on arrival. The ship lost its starboard propeller on February 11 and decks were swept by mountainous seas. The port propeller snapped next day, a gale raged, and the captain improvised sails while wireless calls for help were sent. The Bordeaix steamer answered and backed alongside to assist as hawsers were passed and Havre was reached at three knots.
