Veterans Life Insurance Reinstate and Conversion Rules
The Veterans administration explains reinstatement options for World War II veterans whose National Service Life Insurance lapsed. Reinstatement within six months of discharge requires two premiums and health evidence. after six months, within three months, with health proof and two premiums. Partial reinstatement to $1,000 to $10,000 is allowed, in $500 steps. Five year level policies issued before December 31 1945 may be extended three more years. others retain five years. Upon expiration, convert to ordinary life, 20 payment life, or 30 payment life. If lapse occurs after conversion, all premiums due with 5 percent interest. Converted NSLI has cash value and can be used for security. the extended five-year term has no cash value.
