Montana Power extending lines to serve farms near Choteau

Montana Power Company began survey work to extend local lines to ranches and farm homes around Choteau. The area includes Spring Creek Te ton north and northwest of Choteau with service reaching the Knaff Morris John Gleason ranches and Mountain View Gardens hall among others. A two or more man crew from Great Falls and local resident Jim Underwood are on the project. no connection to R E A lines is planned.

Target Tuberculosis Education Efforts in Montana

Miss Lillian Urban and Mrs. Henrietta Crockett outline tuberculosis education in Teton county schools and civic groups. A Montana State Tuberculosis Association mobile x ray unit will offer free chest x rays, assist early diagnosis, and refer cases to local doctors.

On Saturday November 17 from 12 00 to 12 30 noon M S T over NBC a silver anniversary program will feature an all professional cast led by Jane Cowl. State University Inter scholastic meet resumes in 1946

Montana State university will hold its annual interscholastic meet May 15 to 17 at the state university. Wartime restrictions are lifted and the full program of track and field, golf, tennis for boys and girls, extemporaneous speaking, debate and editorial activities will return. The last Montana interscholastic was in 1942 and Missoula invitation meets followed in recent years.

Buddie of Sst Owen Monkman Here for Visit

Staff Sergeant Paul Lynch of Leominster Massachusetts visits Sgt Owen Monkman’s parents in Choteau Montana and plans to attend the University of Maine after Thanksgiving. Lynch, recently discharged from Chanute Field, served as waist gunner on the same crew as Monkman, who was a tail gunner. Monkman is missing since the bomber was shot down over Germany on November 26 last year. Loach parachuted and was captured, later freed by Russians in April. The visit highlights wartime camaraderie and shared sacrifice among American servicemen.

Rebekah Assembly Honors State Officer Guest

The Vice-President of the Rebekah Assembly Mrs Ann McBride was an honored guest at Queen Rebekah Lodge Chateau on November 2. The dinner featured piano music by Mrs Cohoe and a program by Mrs Yona Zgoda Mrs Alice Robinson and Mrs Aileen Ferris. Grace Holman sang solo as a candle lighting service marked the event. Rebekahs and Odd Fellows capped the evening with a card party and doughnuts and coffee.

Harvey Dale Discharged From Army Air Force

Tech Sergeant Harvey L. Dale of Chateau was discharged at Drew Field Separation Station this week. Son of Mrs. S. Dale of Spokane Washington he served overseas from January 1945 with the 468th Bomb Group in the European theater returning in July. He earned the Air Medal and two clusters.

The Legion Auxiliary met Monday evening at Mrs Stuart Myers home with Mrs Scott and Kropp as hostesses. They discussed the milk program at the school aiding 153 pupils, reported 9 new Nat News subscribers, and reviewed district convention reports. Six new members joined. a Cantor program fundraiser and armistice day program followed with refreshments and dancing.

Cpl George Kochman Discharged at Fort Douglas

Cpl George F Kochman of Brnum was discharged at the Fort Douglas Separation Center this week. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Carl F Kochman and has 22 months overseas. He wears one battle star for campaigns in England Belgium and France and is entitled to wear the European Theater of Operations ribbon.

Turkeys to be shipped from Chateau December 5

Oliver Mauseth president of the Teton County Shipping Association announced the annual turkey shipment from Chateau will occur on Wednesday December 5. He urged local growers to market their birds through the association and said advance payments will match last year.

Otto Otness of Minneapolis visits his brother Pete Otness, arriving Thursday and planning to stay through Thanksgiving. Married, his wife could not travel due to ill health. Otto lived in the area from 1898 to 1907 and owned land near Farmington. This is his first return since leaving in 1907.

State air meet scheduled for Sunday in Chateau

A big state air meet is set for Sunday November 25 at the new Municipal airport in Chateau under the municipal airport commission. Invitations go to all state plane dealers to exhibit models and pilots will be invited. A Civil Aeronautical Authority representative will attend. Dean Chaffin may attend. Nordhagen, B-29 Pilot, Honored in Santa Anna Discharge

1st Lt. John O. Nordhagen, husband of Mrs. John O. Nordhagen, received honorable discharge this week at the Santa Anna separation base. A 57 month Army Air Forces veteran, he served in India, China, and the Marianas as a B-29 pilot with the 20th Air Force. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, and a Unit Citation. Brig. Gen. Arthur E. Eas terbrook praised the AAF veterans as the cream of the crop and future leaders.

Robinson Coming Home Soon

Staff Sergeant Roscoe C. Robinson of Agawam is among more than 400 Army combat veterans departing Pearl Harbor on Tuesday October 30 aboard the Navy LST 30 for San Francisco. The voyage to the West Coast will take about 10 days, after which veterans proceed to Separation Centers to complete discharge formalities and return to civilian life.

Brig Gen A F Hegenberger announces the return of Cpl Elmo F Phillips of Chateau to the United States. Phillips served with the Twelfth Air Service Group in China before redeployment of Chinese troops after Japan's surrender. His wife and parents are listed at Chateau and Riverside California. He left Pendr(E)y prior to service in December 1941 and sailed overseas in November 1943.

Jerome Tackes Discharged From Army Air Force Service

Jerome Tackes returned home after discharge at the Great Falls Army Air Race. He served nearly three years as a turret gunner on a B-24 with the 15th Air Force in Italy during Germanys surrender. He wears the Air Medal with one cluster and five European theater battle stars. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tackes of Power and has three brothers serving.
