The World Community Day service will be held Friday evening November 9 at the Lutheran Church of Chateau. A 7 30 PM business session precedes the 8 PM service opening. The event, sponsored by the United Council of Church Women, focuses on The Price of Enduring Peace and the World Charter with refreshment to follow.
Robert Flick, a sea man first class with 301 N. C. B. 12th Det., writes from Okinawa about a powerful typhoon that destroyed tents, damaged a shop, and washed ships ashore. He notes 130 to 140 mph winds, widespread flooding, and hopes to return home for Christmas.
Members of the Teton High School band and glee club were awarded music emblems for 1944 1945. Recipients include Shirley Jacobs Beverly Mackenzie Beverly Jacobs Dolores Jacobs Anna Hanson Margaret Dellwo Betty Ward Stanley Stott Hazel Bleecker Bernice Smith Nelen Smith with gold chenille lyre pins on maroon felt bearing Teton High marks and G B or GB for group designation.
Mrs George Austin director of Pep Parade arrives in Choteau for two night run at the high school auditorium sponsored by the local American Legion post. The dates are Friday and Saturday November 16 and 17. Austin studied at the University of Oklahoma and trained at Horner Conservatory and Century Fox Studio.
The C James Smith post of the American Legion sponsors the musical comedy Pep Parade at the county high school auditorium in Chateau on November 16 and 17 with a student show on November 14. Proceeds go to the new building fund. Mary Beck leads Gussie Peck and a cast including Judy, Tommy, Aunt Hattie and Dr. Dora Druggins in a comic farce with songs, dances and numbers. A village child popularity contest precedes each show with votes cast by money in containers placed in local businesses.
Teton's Oldest Settlers plan the annual gathering in Choteau at the Masonic temple on Nov 15. Banquet at 7:00 p m served by the Ladies Industrial. Membership requires 51 years of age, 30 years in Montana with 10 in Teton county. husband wife memberships apply. annual dues are 1 dollar for individuals or couples and 50 cents for single women.
Mrs Evelyn Kuckuck named the new Teton county public welfare case worker, succeeding Miss Adelaide Sheldon who resigned. Kuckuck, a Great Falls resident, brings welfare experience from North Dakota Ohio and Montana and earned a social work degree from Ohio State University. She will join Montana social workers meeting in Great Falls November 19 and 30.
Miss Dorothy Winship and George P. Jahnke were married in a candlelight ceremony at the First Lutheran church Fairfield officiated by Rev A B Holland. About 50 guests from Fairfield Chateau and nearby towns attended with families present. The couple plans to reside in Wisconsin after a church reception and gifts.
Fidelity Chapter No. 18 C EB 8 hosts a 6 p.m. potluck dinner on Wednesday November 14 for members and families. A regular meeting after the meal will honor past matrons and patrons with a special program arranged by worthy matron Mrs Edna Averill.
TSgt Howard Anderson has returned to civilian life after 32 months overseas with the 20th Air Force. The Acantha notes he nearly completed four years in service, having served in Trinidad and Caribbean areas before Guam and other Pacific bases, and is now single and unattached.
Wm. A. Irwin, recently recovering from a serious operation, is back in town and reports steady yet modest improvement. He previously worked for Knudtzon Lumber Co. of Chateau. Mrs. Irwin teaches at Chateau grade school. Their daughter Ruth Irwin, a U.S. Army nurse and lieutenant, awaits ships to return home after about two years overseas in the South Pacific and the Philippines.
Agent C H Porter of the Great Northern announced the local branch train will resume its regular schedule next Tuesday. During the livestock shipping season Tuesday departures from Great Falls go to Chateau Bynum and Pendroy, with arrivals in Choteau about 3 30 p m and an immediate return after loading to aid connections east.
Miss Bonna Randall daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Randall of Spring Valley became the bride of Samuel Elford in a Trinity Lutheran church ceremony in Choteau. A 2 piece navy suit, the couple plan a short honeymoon visiting Great Falls and Helena before settling in Choteau.
Orville McGinnis was convicted of a statutory offense and sentenced by Judge R. M. Hattersley to five years in the state penitentiary. The report also notes upcoming public auctions, military transfers, college band members, and visiting relatives in Chateau.
Reuben Lantz, a Choteau businessman who operates Choteau Sales and Service after taking over the Grizzly service station, was overcome by carbon monoxide while working on a car. He was found unconscious and rushed to a Great Falls hospital but regained consciousness en route and may stay hospitalized two to three days. The incident followed a cold snap that forced closing the shop doors.
National 4 H Achievement Week highlighted by 125 participants at the Chateau event. Greenfield Victory Workers and Happy Go Lucky Cardinals won girls awards while Joe Folda's Sunny Slope Boys club took the boys prize. Leadership honors went to Mrs. Roy Morgan and Mrs. Martin Schultz for long service. Extension workers urged enrollment in 4 H programs.
Ist Lt John Billings, a Marine veteran who served two years in the South Pacific, is expected to arrive home soon. He was wounded during combat near Saipan and spent a long hospital stay before postings in Honolulu and other Pacific bases. He is to be discharged from Camp Farragut Idaho. He formerly taught music at Teton and enlisted after resigning from his teaching post.
The Legion auxiliary meets Monday November 12 at Mrs. Stuart Meyers home. After the business session, members join Legionnaires in Armistice day observance at the Legion hall.
Mrs Amelia Braemer 64 longtime Blackleaf resident died last Thursday at Chateau hospital after years of ill health. Born August 7 1881 in Torn Germany she immigrated 1894 to the United States living in New York Minnesota and North Dakota before moving to Teton County in 1913. Survived by six children and four grandchildren. funeral held at Bynum Methodist with Banks Funeral Home in charge.
Farm and ranch operators of the Deep Creek-Teton River district west of Choteau plan a November 14 meeting at 7 30 p m in the Choteau court room. A A Wells of the Sun River Rural Electric Cooperative will present construction estimates and answer questions on extending REA lines to the area. The session is open to all residents and aims to inform those living in the district about the proposed development.
Richard J. Munroe of Dutton Montana has been honorably discharged from the Army Air Forces at Tyndall Field Florida. He served 22 months in the Army, eight months in the European theater with the 8th Air Force. He earned the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf clusters and the European theater ribbon with three battle stars. He completed 26 missions as a tail gunner on a B 17 with the 95th Bomb Group.
In the town of Dutton, Dick Munroe is a well known figure. His father, Mr Everett Munroe, manages Farmers Machinery Co. in Dutton, and his mother is Mrs Munroe.
Armistice Day falls on Sunday but is observed Monday. Château business houses and the court house will close for the day. Legion posts sponsor dances in Dutton and Fairfield and in Choteau an observance will be held at the Legion club rooms with C James Smith Post and Legion Auxiliary hosting. Men in uniform and recently discharged veterans are invited with their ladies.

Word to The Accantha says Bud Moulton, one of the first draftees, will arrive in Spokane about the eighth of this month after discharge. Mrs. Moulton, formerly Hilda Mickelbach, will visit her parents in Portland with their child, then the family may return to the county. Bud, known in youth as Bud, worked as a carpenter in Great Falls and may settle back in the county.
