A large audience at Choteau High School watched the Chateau Lions club hosted amateur night under R E Nelson. Billie Bailie won first place with a xylophone medley, Evelyn Alstad second, and Jack Larkin third. Prizes were $10 $7 and $4. Several performers impressed, including Patricia Watson Smith and Grant Wheeler with duets, and young Evelyn Alstad who won seven silver dollars.

They discussed Commodity Credit Corporation loans and plan a May 20 meeting at the Chateau courthouse to explain loans and 1938 wool marketing. Foreman Phil Bottler and partners supervised the release of 32 050 four inch native trout in the North Fork and Middle Fork Teton rivers. Six trips delivered the stock with minimal loss and favorable water conditions. Baker guest ranch area and Waldron Creek were among the planting sites with local helpers aiding the operation.

Airplane Mail Route Planned From Chateau May Nineteenth
Postmaster Monkman reports an experimental air mail flight to collect mail from Chateau on May 19 as part of Air Mail Week. The plane will circle through Conrad Browning Cut Bank Shelby Havre Fort Benton and return to Great Falls by 3 30 p m. Contributions to cover extra costs are welcome.

Rancher Diess Funeral Held Here for Hubert Brown
Hubert Brown 70, a Dry Forks district rancher, died May 31 at Chateau hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday at St Luke's church with Fr Edward J. McGowan presiding. Burial followed in Chateau cemetery. Born October 19, 1867 in Darwin Minnesota, he homesteaded in North Dakota and ranching in Canada before moving to Teton county in 1913. He was single with a nephew W L Swanson of Fargo as the only immediate relative.

The Chateau Woman's Club will sponsor an electrical appliance exposition and cooking demonstrations Tuesday May 17 at 1 30 pm in the Masonic hall. Grizzly Band Delights Montana State at Choteau Concert
Montana State University concert band known as the Grizzly band performed Sunday evening at Ton high school auditorium in Choteau. Under Clarence W. Bell the group impressed a large crowd and inspired local musicians. High school sit-in with the university for five finales merged both bands with Irshal Davis directing. The program included My Hero, Raymond the Queen's Secret, Komm Susser Tod, Tambourine Gossee Fright of the Bumbie, Suite Espagnole, The Volunteer, Dances from Henry V, Witch of Endor, Willow Echoes, and Southern Wedding.

Dellwo Enters Sheriff Race on Democratic Ticket
Teton county undersheriff T J Dellwo of Chateau filed last Friday for the Democratic nomination for sheriff. The 40 year old son of Nicholas Dellwo of Rowan vows to perform duties with courtesy and economy if nominated and elected. Dellwo, who resigned as undersheriff to join the Grizzly service station management, has seven children and is brother to Dennis Dellwo, long-time state legislator and former speaker.

Bulldog Band Heads to Havre for Eighth Annual Music Festival
About 45 members of the Teton county high school Bulldog band led by Irshal Davis will travel by chartered Greyhound to Havre for the eighth annual northern Montana music festival. They arrive around noon and return the same night. The Great Falls Elks' band is the only guest adult band. 49 concerts run 10 a.m. to 5:35 p.m. with a massed band of about 1,800 musicians directed by Davis.

Youth Passes Wednesday at Choteau Hospital
Edwin Irion aged 17 died Thursday after a prolonged nephritis illness at Choteau hospital where he had been a patient 43 days. Born in Prairie County Montana he moved with his parents Emanuel and unnamed mother to Fairfield bench aided by the Farm Security Administration. He is survived by four brothers and five sisters. two siblings died in infancy. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 PM at the Methodist church with interment in Chateau cemetery. Body at Roberts funeral home.

Mary Ellen Young Gold Star Mother Dies in Great Falls
Mary Ellen Young, gold star mother and Legion Auxiliary member, died last Thursday at her Davies Inn home in Great Falls from injuries after an February automobile accident. Born September 25, 1855 in Harmony Indiana, she lived in Maple Hill Kansas before moving to Chateau and Fairfield. Survived by sons Joe B. Young of Las Cruces NM and Ray M. Young who died in WWI, and four other daughters. 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Her body was shipped to Maple Hill for burial with Legionnaires from Choteau and Fairfield in attendance.
