Preparations for Poppy Day on May 8th are underway by the Chateau unit of the American Legion auxiliary. Mrs. K. E Stargis, unit president, coordinated efforts yesterday with Mrs. Elmer Smith directing as Poppy Day chair. Poppies will be distributed citywide to honor World War dead and aid disabled veterans.

County Music Festival Draws Large County Crowd
The first county-wide school music festival was held last Saturday at the county high school auditorium under County Superintendent Inez Eckford. Nearly all schools participated with teachers and parents in attendance as the high school bands and Chateau Municipal band performed a concert on Main Avenue.

Rainy May Day Delivers Generous County Rainfall
Last Sunday’s May Day rain brought widespread moisture across the county with Chateau recording .43 inches Pendroy .50 inches and Dutton .35 inches. The event was described as the best soaking rain since 1935 and part of a broad statewide rainfall.

Silver salmon plantings boost Pishkun reservoir efforts
Phil Bottler of the Great Falls fish hatchery and John R. Cook of the Isaac Waiton league led a visit to Chateau to plant 17 000 silver salmon in Pishkun and plan 15 500 more. They discussed 20 000 native cutthroat trout to be released within 10 days to two weeks, likely for the north fork of the Teton.

The Chateau Municipal Band under C. O. Edwards will host a street concert Saturday at 7:30 PM on Main Avenue. The one and a half hour program features marches by Sousa and Southwell, popular tunes, a circus parade, and a finale by the band with a fanfare and claps.

Mrs Eckford filed Monday on the Republican ticket seeking re election as county superintendent of schools. She has held the post since 1933 after earlier service as county high school board clerk and board member. Te ton county commissioners at a regular May meeting supported the creation of Greenfield School District No 75, sustaining County Superintendent Inez Eckford while split on the vote. The board approved consolidating district 59 with Greenfield and urged a new district to serve the area, also approving a full time home demonstration agent funded by county and state.

Teton county contributed a total of 91.50 toward the cancer fight carried on by the Women’s Field army of the American Society for the Control of Cancer. Miss Hazel Andersen, county nurse and district 7 vice commander, reports the county’s quota based on one dollar per thousand residents. Local treasurer is Mayor C. W. Burns of Choteau. Contributions come from Fairfield PTA, Greenfield PTA, the American Legion posts and auxiliaries, and several individuals including Mrs. Daisy Genger and Mrs. L. Vanderhoof among others. campaign ran through April with work by Dutton limited by late material deliveries.

Twenty nine Lions and Ladies from Choteau and nearby towns attended a Browning zone meeting with Browning Lions as hosts. Represented clubs included Choteau Dutton Cascade Great Falls Conrad Shelby Cut Bank Browning and Sweetgrass Coutts Dr Spankie of Calgary district governor was absent. Dr H W Bateman of Choteau stood in as district deputy governor and toastmaster for a banquet before about 300 attendees.
