Group Plans New City Building in Chi nook
At a special Chi nook American Legion meeting a project for a city hall to replace the dismantled structure was approved with the fire department and city council. Labor will come from county relief funds via the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. The Legion and fire department will invest part of their funds with the city water fund aiding material purchases. Rent will reimburse the various funds. Ground clearing and basement excavations are under way with unemployment relief workers. The 32 by 82 foot hollow tile and concrete building will house offices for the city clerk and police court, a council chamber, a Legion meeting room, a public gathering space, a fire department store room and bed, with a fire apparatus hall two feet lower. A concrete basement beneath the council area will rise three feet above the sidewalk, containing a jail and records vault.
