News of the California earthquake eased fears among Chateau residents. Eleanor Crossen at Los Angeles wired her father about her safety while C D McDonald learned his wife and extended family were safe. El der Mr and Mrs McDonald reside in Alhambra and the quake was milder there.

Montana officials released two counts of the Sun River elk herd. Charles B. Maars said the herd near Helena numbered about 2000 after ground checks, while earlier air surveys by Commissioner William Steinbrenner estimated around 1500 elk. The air crew covered multiple locales including Haystack Butte area and Spotted Deer preserve. A fall season harvest is expected and a new law authorizes the board to destroy elk when they threaten property.

Teton county banks reopened for regular business including First National, Citizens State of Choteau, First National Fairfield, Dutton State Dutton, First State Bynum, Power State Power and Farmers State Pendrey. Openings authorized by Frank H. Johnson at Helena and by the Federal Reserve Bank at Minneapolis under treasury orders. Banks face restrictions on gold withdrawals and hoarding with heavy fines. both banks reported excellent business.

Forest Service Sets 1933 Grazing Fees for National Forests
The Forest Service announces grazing fees based on the 1931 rate for the first half of the 1933 season with the second half pending study in Washington. Regional Forester Major Evan W. Kelley notes the 1931 rate runs about 40 percent below private pasture charges. Cattle rates for the Teton division likely range 14 to 18 cents per head per cow month, with the overall sheer rate from 2 to 344 cents under similar conditions. Cattle and horses may enter June 16 and sheep July 1.

New Law Sets Auto Licence Rates Across Vehicle Classes
A new law from the legislative assembly fixes passenger car licenses at 10 dollars and establishes scaled truck rates by weight. Austin B. Death suddenly claims James Neil Robertson
James Neil Robertson 75 died suddenly at his daughter Mrs George Carrolls home in Chateau after being found unconscious during undressing for bed. Intercranial hemorrhage is given as the cause. He was born August 6 1857 in Long Grove Iowa and survived by four daughters two sons two brothers and a sister. Funeral set for Friday at 2 p m at the Methodist church with Rev Edwin Dover officiating.
