Cold weather has little effect on injurious insects finds entomologist
Montana State College circular No. 146 by D P Thurber reports tests by G Allen Mail showing extreme cold under snow and soil does not usually kill grasshopper or grain bug eggs. Insects avoid damage by snow or dirt, and only sudden rapid freeze-thaw cycles cause harm. No reliable method for grain bug control and potential for grasshopper poisoning programs advised.
