Augusta School District Sells Rural Buildings After Consolidation
The Augusta District No. 45, consolidated twenty years ago to support a town high school, has sold many rural schools as enrollment moved to town. Two buses serve Elk Creek and Riebeling districts, while remaining rural facilities deteriorate. Some buildings become homes, ranch structures, or roadside inns. The district has cleared its debt from the high school era and expanded offerings. Examinations for 19 Montana nursing graduates occur this week at the state capitol.

Weight and Age Effect on Beef Cattle Shown at Havre Station
Studies of over 500 Hereford cows at Montana Agricultural Experiment Station North Montana branch near Havre show age affects summer weight changes and calf birth weights. Summer losses rise with cow age, especially after seven. calves born to six to eight year olds are heavier, while ten year olds yield calves similar to four year olds. Prime life for beef cows appears between six and eight years.

No Advantage in Working Stubble Before Fallow Preparation
Montana State experiments at Havre show little or no benefit from discing stubble before fallow. Early spring disking may aid plowless fallow, while delaying fallow to July with April disking can raise yields. Fall disking before the next May or July reduces production. Also, the Montana highway commission awarded eight construction bids totaling 497808.54 but rejected all bids for the Rogers road project near Stearns in Lewis and Clark county for re-advertisement on March 25.
