In a small eastern village along a busy passenger line a twelve year old crippled girl waving a candle lit her neighbors with nightly signals to passing trains. The enginemen answered with short toots until one night the light vanished forever, ending a poignant exchange.
Two unnamed enginemen gained national attention after a simple act of kindness. Their goodwill, broadcast worldwide, touched a stranger in need and became a lasting page in life’s record, a moment once made that cannot be changed.
Ralph R. Gaswick of Hankers Pennsylvania, a 77 year old single man in a wheelchair for 11 years, devotes his waking hours to distributing religious literature. Over 16,000 tracts have been produced and mailed, funded by friends, with no income of his own. He lives with his mother and remains steadfast in faith despite lifelong suffering.
Everett C. Leech of Bynum writes from the Philippines to his mother describing Army life after enlisting on Dec. 19 and sailing from Frisco Jan. 24.
