The city election on April 7 appears to have a single candidates slate as May or K. E. Sturgis and Alderman Hampton Bloom will not seek reelection. Mayor Sturgis and Mr Bloom say dissension is caused by factions supporting opposition.

Mrs. DeLoss Moulton of Chateau and Miss Hilda Michelbach of Pendroy were injured Saturday when their car skidded on a sudden storm on the highway near Wolf Creek while returning from Bozeman with Patricia, Moulton’s college student daughter. Moulton has a broken collar bone and is hospitalized in Great Falls. Michelbach has head cuts. Patricia was uninjured.
The Young Timers dance committee announces tickets are being mailed this week to county community committeemen for the event at the Masonic Hall in Chateau Saturday night April 5. Tickets cost one dollar per couple and a lunch will be served in the basement with an extra charge.
After DeWolff Hopper’s tale, Bill Haney returns in plain clothes with a box of tricks and astonishes attendees. The crowd gathers at the head of the room as Haney performs illusion after illusion, impressing spectators more than famed magician Herman.
A visiting Mr Haney departed after earning universal goodwill from the gathering. His life’s work may yield only a few tangible gains, yet his smiles and kindness remain the lasting mark of his presence.
Chateau Girl Scouts honored the 29th anniversary of Girl Scouts of America with a March 15 ceremony in the M church parlors. Anna Lee Dauwalder baked a white cake and a green white color theme celebrated St Patrick’s Day.
County Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Inez Eckford released figures showing the common school interest and income fund as of March 1, 1941. The report lists allocations and totals for current and future needs within the district and reflects fiscal status of the school program.
Phoebe C. Weaver 67 longtime Chateau resident died last night at Deaconess hospital Great Falls after a long illness. She was born in Lincoln Montana and was wife of John Weaver Sr. Survived by three sons John Jr Wallace of Chateau and Elmer of Billings plus three grandchildren. Funeral plans not announced.
The Fun Feed at Chateau High School on Thursday March 27 opens at 5 pm with a program at 6 pm and a 75 cent baked ham dinner at 6 30 pm. Tickets are required for admission to meal program and dance and unsold tickets go back to the county agent March 22.
Bozeman march 18 three extension poultry demonstration farm cooperators topped divisions for production. Gottlieb Siegle of Fairfield led flocks over 100 hens with 3,090 eggs in January an average of 22.3 per hen.
A reader reports a "Spanish Swindle" mail scam from Mexico promising a large cut of a supposed $285000 sum. Postmaster C G Monkman warns of gullible victims lured to Mexico to receive loot by trick or force. The letter sample is signed only as L and details a high payoff to solicit funds.
Members of the Teton county Sportsmen's Assn and others are urged to attend the annual meeting tomorrow evening at the court house. Important business is planned and an additional feature will be the film presentation.
The Teton county AAA committee and the county agent schedule meetings to explain the 1941 farm program and discuss marketing quotas. Farmers should attend sessions from March 21 to April 4 at listed towns, plus a separate range program meeting on March 22 at Chateau. Key dates include March 31 ACP pay applications, April 15 deferred grazing, and April 30 requests for 1941 programs.
Robert McDonald of Pendroy won first place in the American Legion oratorical contest at Teton high school and will represent Chateau in the district contest at Great Falls Friday at 9:30 AM. Mildred Depner and Charles Tesch placed second and third with prizes of 3 2 and 1 dollars.
Firefighters fought a severe Monday blaze at Orville Talifson’s north side home caused by a gasoline heater explosion. Much furniture and belongings were damaged by smoke and water, and the building owned by Steve Tressler sustained heavy damage with no insurance. A Tuesday call to E. W. Allen’s residence found only smoke from a short in wiring. firefighters arrived after the issue had been resolved.
Montana dairy chief B F Thrailkill announces enforcement of the new oleomargarine law starting April 1. The definition now covers Pacific Nut Maid Nut Nu Speed and similar products and packaging must be 16 ounces or 1 to 2 pounds with no tolerance. Licenses required for products sold after that date unless dealers clear old stock.
The Teton county board set a seven man quota under the selective service act with an eighth added to replace one rejected in the last group. A list names 12 men to report March 26 at 2 p m to be sent to Fort Missoula induction. Alternates are named for those rejected. Instructions for draftees cover baggage, footwear, equipment, firearms prohibition, visitors, money, reading material, toiletries, uniforms, and reporting expectations. State HQ notes men 21 since Oct 16 1940 are not required to register unless a new day is proclaimed. Volunteers may still enlist.
