Radio test completes route beacon for National Parks Airways
A test of the new radio range beacon along the Montana route of National Parks Airways was announced by president Al W. Frank. A Commerce Department plane and federal officials inspected the line from Butte to Idaho Falls and Salt Lake City to ensure proper adjustment. The system guides pilots by a continuous hum and warning signals off course, with a coverage about 10 miles wide. The beacon aids navigation from Great Falls to Salt Lake City as NP A contemplates additional equipment. United Airlines, linking with NP A at Salt Lake City, plans a Boeing twin-engine 10 passenger airliner at 170 mph, reducing New York to San Francisco flights to about 17 hours and Salt Lake to New York to 13 hours.
