School Budget Explanations From County Superintendent
Meetings to consider preliminary budgets for maintenance and operation of all schools in Teton county are set for Monday, June 12, announced by Inez Hickford. Budgets must be prepared by then and filed with the county superintendent, then opened to taxpayer inspection. The county budget board will review on July 24 and final budgets are adopted in July with August levies. High school budgets follow the same timeline as elementary, and districts may budget only up to 90 percent of anticipated tax receipts.

Farmers Seek Road Improvements North of Dutton
A North of Dutton delegation led by John Bolling and Siever Bergen asked the county commissioners to grade and upgrade a two mile north to five mile east road near the Sunshine trail. Aged Citizen Peter Lear Dies After Pneumonia
Peter Joseph Lear, 87, died last Thursday at his son R N Lear’s home in Montana after a pneumonia related decline. Born in Germany on Sept 22 1844, he immigrated as a child and later farmed in Washington and Montana. He leaves three sons Edd Ralph and Joe, a Milwaukee sister, and a Chicago brother. Funeral was Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial in Chateau Cemetery.

Gas fell two cents last Friday across city service stations. Top grade gas currently sells for 22 cents, second grade such as Montana gas for 20 cents, while prevailing tank prices range around 20 and 19 cents.

Power Citizens Seek Road Linking Power to Sunshine Trail
Seven Power residents met with the board of county commissioners to push immediate construction of a new road from Power to the Sunshine trail. The route would start where the highway sees Power but currently lacks access, with a petition previously approved but rights of way blocked by Rose Baylor and Carl Dahlman demanding high prices. Sheep growers urged to use Teton wool pool sales
The Teton County wool pool urged sheepmen especially small flocks to sell through the pool via the Teton County Shipping association. A letter from Rev J A Schulte reports his sister Mrs J A Boer Kohl died of cancer at St Francis hospital La Crosse Wisconsin. The body returns to Caledonia Minnesota for interment. Father Schulte was with her a month and seeks to return to duties soon after treatment.

Calvin Wixom, agricultural socialist on the Bynum project, praised the crop outlook for the coming year. Seeding is complete with strong germination and moisture looks favorable. The reservoir holds about 18 000 acre feet, with an expected 40 000 acre feet to be used this year. Mustard and sugar beets are being tested, with 30 acres of beets planted and good germination. City Council Grants Permits and Bonds at Tuesday Meeting
The city council met in regular session Tuesday night, approving minor building permits and the bonds of newly elected and appointed officials. Payment on lots for the new city building was ordered. J Byrne sought a plumber license under ordinance No 43 requiring a $12 annual fee and a $1,000 bond before connecting to city water mains. Plumbing rules span 30 items.

Conrad Drugist Sentenced Two Years in Arson Case
C H Drake Conrad druggist pleaded guilty to arson and received a two year prison term from District Judge Hurley. Co defendant Ralph Smith got a suspended one year sentence after nine months served. The case involved the burning of Drake's wife residence heavily insured. Drake previously ran a Choteau drug store and served as postmaster there.

Valuable Barn Destroyed by Lightning Near Fairfield
A valuable barn belonging to Martin Olson one mile east of Fairfield was struck by lightning and burned to ashes Saturday around 5 30 pm. Neighbors and locals including Legionnaires who were in town rushed to help but the fire spread too quickly to save the building. Livestock and contents were removed while other structures were saved. Olson, brother of J B Olson of Fairfield, is a county commissioner candidate and irrigation district commissioner. Fairfield suffered a severe electrical storm and downpour at that time.
