Campaigns at Fort Keogh 1879 80 Against Hostile Indians

The Fort Keogh garrison under Col Nelson A Miles conducted winter campaigns against hostile Indian bands around the Yellowstone and Powder River areas. Detachments totaling 15 to 100 men hunted tribes estimated from 100 to 300 people, capturing captives and driving bands toward the fort for confinement. The year included skirmishes near Sheep mountains and Custer Creek with Little Wolf surrendering, and notable feats by Sgt Thad B Glover and others in pursuit of Sioux and Cheyenne bands.
