Forty guests joined a wedding dinner then the couple departed for a Kalispell Flathead country honeymoon and plan to reside at home on August 1 with out of state guests George Perkins and Otis Wyckoff from Fort Townsend Washington attending.
Phil I. Cole of the Dewey Gould Co Boston reports purchase of about 1.5 million pounds of Montana wool in recent weeks. Ten cars left Choteau and 12 from Browning with the last car leaving last Tuesday. Prices 19 to 23 cents. overall clip lighter but good quality. Tom Larson topped with ~80 000 pounds at 22 cents and Roy Cleary of Browning bought 160 000 pounds.
C. B. Thomasson, a VT-5 Navy flyer, escaped a single seat monoplane after it struck 12,000 volt lines near a ground suspension. The plane burst into flames, Thomasson climbed to safety hand over hand to a pole, plane burned leaving only motor and ribbed frame in power lines.
About 700 Mormons and friends are expected at a July 24 anniversary celebration in Great Falls. The North Montana district Latter Day Saints hosts the event at the American Legion pavilion with a noon start and a 2 PM program, games, and a dance in the evening. A Brigham Young trek reenactment and Jim Bridger meeting highlight the program.
Clerk Halvor Daley received a telegram with the death of his brother in law Ole Larson and the injury of his sister Elma in an auto crash near Mason City Iowa. The Larsons from Watertown South Dakota were en route to visit daughter Elsie in Mason City. Funeral services for Ole Larson will be held in Watertown Friday.
The Montana extension office marks 25 years of service with a KFBB broadcast from 1:15 to 1:30 on Wednesday July 26. Speakers include Lois Knowlton home demonstration agent and Fred Willson county agent plus Mrs. Mac Thompson of Farmington on What the Extension Service Has Meant to the Farm Home and Harry Laubach of Diamond Valley on 25 Years of Agriculture Progress.
The Acantha announces a ten page issue created through a Montana Newspaper Association feature service arrangement. It adds four pages of state and feature news and six pages of home print, making it the largest weekly in the region. About 1,150 copies are mailed weekly to subscribers in Teton county, with ongoing extra costs to maintain the larger format.
More than 2,000 people are expected for the Catholic Field Day Mass and Picnic on Sunday July 30 with attendees from Cha teau and the Augusta Fairfield Power Dutton Bynum and Pendrey missions. Mass at 11 am will be celebrated by Father McGowan of St Luke's parish. The sports program will be detailed in next week’s paper.
Miss Ann Eckford daughter of Mrs Inez Eckford will wed Whitfield Scarboro of San Francisco at her mother’s home with Rev W Friend Day officiating. Eckford a Chateau alumna and Missouri University graduate, Scarboro born in Georgia studied at The Citadel and works as a special agent for Dargen Craven Fox in San Francisco and Butte.
Manager A. J. Nutter announces a game here next Sunday between Conrad and the local nine. In a prior meeting Chateau fell 4 0, and Conrad seeks revenge with Whittaker on the mound and Otness catching. Local dates include July 30 with Walier and August 6 with Fort Benton on the Choteau diamond.
A general rain drenched the county last night with .27 inch in Chateau and at Bynum Pendroy and Power. Cool air followed aiding crops. Obert Dale a former Choteau star pitcher visits with sister Lenora from Tacoma. Choteau softball lost to Pendray 4 0 and fell to Conrad 4 0 last week with O Hare and Garner batting the losses.
The 1939 Teton county assessment by County Assessor Otto Wagnild shows total valuation at $17,293,930, up from $16,625,532 last year. Taxable values under state law rise to $5,260,383 from $5,161,328, with full value excluding inter county property at $138,813,627 and taxable value $3,896,492. Registration counts rise across autos and trucks, livestock totals up, and the Board of Commissioners began equalization. August 7 is the deadline for property owners to apply in writing for valuation adjustments.
The Chateau American Legion post signs with United Shows Carnival to run July 24 25 26 on the pavilion grounds. The carnival, one of the largest to visit, travels from Great Falls and will feature rides shows and diversions of a full carnival company.
The marriage of Miss Tishelle Hirshberg daughter of Mr and Mrs Julius Hirshberg to Mr Elkan C Offer son of Mr and Mrs Harold B Offer of Seattle took place today in Los Angeles at 3 pm. The ceremony was at the bride's uncle and aunt Sidney Hirshberg home with attendants Joanna Hirshberg and Sidney Hirshberg Jr. The couple will reside in Los Angeles and honeymoon partly in Seattle staying a week at the Olympic Hotel.
About 385 independent merchants from towns across the county attended the Associated Merchants of Montana meeting Monday evening at the court case. Trampton Bloom opened the session and Marvin D. Morrow was introduced as field secretary. Dean R. C. Line of the University of Montana spoke on unfair trade practices and state sales tax, outlining the state fund board duties and showing food salesmanship films. A general discussion followed and future meetings were noted.
Six inches of snowfall covered Wright Peak and Bear Top Peak overnight. The forest office notes cooler conditions for Chateau residents this morning. Rain at Gates Park measured 0.389 inches, lowering fire danger in the Lewis and Clark forest area where the danger zone had risen to level five two days earlier.
Rev. R. F. Vick and Mrs. Vick lead a group of Choteau young people to the Epworth League Institute at King's Hill near Neihart. The institute runs this week with plans to return by Saturday July 22.
