Ranger L H McLean returned from a back country tour in the Lewis and Clark forest district to organize protection teams for fire season. McLean cites potential danger east of the Sunriver Teton divide due to drought while Sun River drainage sees lower risk from greener vegetation and higher rainfall 1.04 inches in July at Gates Park. No fires yet on the Teton district though lightning has struck with two fires near Pentagon Mountain on the Flathead. The no smoking on the forest ban by Supervisor Willey began July 18 and continues as conditions warrant. Campers currently do not need forest entry permits.

County Attorney E L Murphy prosecuted Joe Scott in justice court with Wm Frazier as plaintiff. Scott found guilty of misdemeanor for repossessing cattle impounded by Frazier without consent. Jury of six took 15 to 20 minutes. Fine set at $25 plus 60 days to pay. Ranchers west of Chateau involved.

The third annual Chautauqua in Teton opened with strong attendance on both afternoon and evening programs. County Agent Fred Willson directed, with W. G. Dauwalder as superintendent. Highlights included Chateau band selections, a county adult chorus directed by Mrs. Arnold Hanusa, and soloists Calvin Wixom and Leslie Jourdonnais. A Plainview harmonica group, a Farmington burlesque band, and an old fiddlers contest followed, with A. C Austad winning. The program closed with a Crvil Yeager negro skit.

Secretary lists sportsmen's achievements in annual report
The Teton County Sportsmen's Association detailed 720,400 fish planted in county streams and Sun River headwaters, 200 Chinese pheasants released on farms, and 3,000 pounds of wheat to waterfowl. Otto Wagnild resigned as secretary-treasurer. C. D. McDonald named successor. George M. Coffey elected president. several changes to officers and committee members announced with plan for future fish plantings and Forest Service cooperation. Membership stood at 93, down 37 from last year, with major losses in Fairfield Power and Dutton communities. Funding and expenses cited, plus extensive fish planting data and joint projects with U S Forest Service.

Heart trouble claims life of H. R. Thompson
Harry R. Thompson lifelong Farmington bench resident and active Teton County citizen died Monday at Chateau hospital from heart disease. He was 81, born May 6 1864 in Quincy Illinois, married January 7 1903 to May Brokaw, survived by widow and five children. Funeral will be Saturday at 2 pm at Choteau Methodist Church with burial in Choteau cemetery. body at Roberts funeral home.

First Plane Lands on Gates Park Field by Mountain
A Missoula pilot named Wm Parks landed his plane at Gates Park Field on Lookout Mountain during a trip with his wife from Missoula to Schaefer Meadows. Forest rangers learned of the landing and noted the field’s 2,600 foot runway, 100 foot width, markers, and wind indicators. Parks praised the field and discussed plans to use it for forest service visits this summer amid cloud cover and a storm on the return.
