First Wheat Harvest Will Commence Soon
The Teton county winter wheat harvest will begin in about two weeks while wild hay cutting is underway and the first alfalfa cut has been completed. Montana faces low crop production due to extreme dryness, with July 1 estimates forecasting 21 percent below last year’s totals and a reduced harvest area. Winter wheat and spring wheat yields are down from 1951 and drought has hit barley and oats as irrigated hay stays normal.

Brown told the chamber that GTA will build a new elevator here after a survey showed Chateau area grain justifies three elevators.
