Ayers outlines balanced two year state finances and bond cuts
Governor Roy E Ayers reports the Treasure state's last two-year period closed with a balanced general fund and a small surplus, the first in 21 years, aided by bond retirements and debt refunding. He credits departmental savings and careful budgeting as the core of the sound finances and notes higher aid needs from counties and schools while keeping taxes from rising. The report also notes considerable declines in property tax shares and ongoing efforts to expand relief services. The piece ends with a note that Attorney General Freebourn says the milk control board can fix prices within its designated market area and not beyond.
