Miss Mary Ellen Robison daughter of Mr and Mrs James T Robison of Choteau Montana became the bride of J Edward Faulstich son of Mr and Mrs John Faulstich of Missoula in a Sunday noon ceremony June 25 held in the bride’s parents yard. Reverend Charles E Tate officiated. Attendants were Miss Margaret Carlson and John Robison. The couple, both Montana State University graduates, will reside in Missoula where Faulstich is a chemist at the American Crystal Sugar Company.
Postmaster Gibson Monkman announced Chateau’s post office will advance from third to second class starting July 1 after meeting annual gross sales criteria. Office changes include civil service clerks, a 40 hour week for Mrs. McGinnis, hiring Gordon Tryon, extended hours 8 am to 6 pm, paid vacations, and extra help during Christmas. Direct reporting shifts from Helena to Washington.
Rev. R. F. Vick reports the annual Methodist conference in Missoula a fine gathering with much accomplished. Bishop Hammacker shared China wartime experiences and talks by Bishop Lee and the Bishop Ham Mack er highlighted the event. The Vicks return to Chateau Bynum Pendrey charge and note a new pastor for Dutton.
The Clerk of Court Halvor Daley's office received probate filings over the past week. Vera E. Robertson through B I Packer filed a petition for letters of administration in the William Leslie Evans estate on June 20. Elizabeth Redmond through B I Packer filed a petition for letters of administration in the Edna Ward estate on June 23. The last will and testament of Charles S. McDonald was filed by Geo Coffey on June 21.
Chateau merchants plan to remain closed Monday and Sunday and Tuesday to allow extended travel over the holiday period. Major retailers and professionals including Montana Power Co Safeway Gamble Monarch Lumber J C Penney Citizens State Bank and others will close to encourage shoppers to use Saturday for errands.
Arnold Hanusa was named president at the Lions Club regular meeting along with Hampton Bloom as 1st vice president and Geo Jackson as 2nd vice president. Other officers include Gibson Monkman secretary C D McDonald treasurer R E Nelson Lion Tanner and L E Taylor tally twister. Directors McDonald Willson Breen and Duvendack were carried over. Installation set for the next meeting. Dr Bateman L B Taylor and Hamp Bloom reported on the district convention in Billings and the Yellowstone Park caravan returned Tuesday.
A. B. Guthrie announces Elizabeth V. Soreison, valedictorian of the class of 1989, has won the Reader's Digest Award for scholastic achievement. The prize includes a year subscription to Reader's Digest and an engrossed parchment certificate. The award honors students nationwide for academic excellence and leadership promise.
The Peterson versus Billings sheriff election dispute is back before the state supreme court as briefs are filed and ballots are sent up. Attorneys anticipate an early ruling. delay followed the death of Peterson’s counsel Lou Molumby, with Cascade County Attorney Phil Greenan stepping in. Billings has served as acting sheriff without pay pending decision.
The newly organized amateur camera club met at the Hutchinsons last Thursday then visited Emerick's studio for a second meeting. Many new photography enthusiasts attended a fine program and discussion. Babe Snyder spoke on lenses and photography. The next meeting is set for this Thursday at the Gillette home.
Wilson Adolph Smith died at his home three miles northeast of Fairfield on Friday June 23 from coronary thrombosis. He was born October 18, 1881 in Kansas City and came to Montana in 1913, living in Miles City and Prairie County before settling near Fairfield in 1936. He is survived by his widow Bessie Lou Clark five children two grandchildren and five siblings. he was a Baptist and former Modern Woodmen member and served as a school trustee for many years.
James Ferris, son of Mr and Mrs Rollie Ferris of Chateau, won a 25 cash prize in a national Goodyear Tires essay contest on Farming of Tomorrow on Rubber. More than 16 000 entries from 47 states competed. Ferris is a Teton County High School student and a member of the Future Farmers of America.
Wallace Busey 30 publisher of the Valier Vallerian and son of Thomas A. Busey was found last Thursday afternoon on the south side of Lake Frances. A 12 gauge shotgun lay beside the body and a coroner's inquest ruled suicide. He had been missing since June 7 and is survived by a widow and child. He was born December 5, 1908, in Kalispell and educated in Conrad before joining the family publishing business. Interment followed at Kalispell cemetery.
The Chateau Municipal Band has been invited to perform on Teton County Day at the North Montana Fair in Great Falls. They will feed the cowboy parade at 10:00 a.m. and give an afternoon concert in front of the grandstand. A regular weekly concert will be held on Main Avenue Friday evening.

Funeral services held for Charles Henry Ferris a longtime Montana farmer and stockman known as Judge Ferris who died Sunday evening June 25 1939 at Chateau hospital. Born 1858 in Iowa he helped settle Montana and served as justice of the peace U S Commissioner and Odd Fellows leader. Survived by wife Florence Moulton four children and seven grandchildren. Burial in Choteau cemetery with local pallbearers.
At the home of Mrs. R. M. Hattersley in Conrad on Sunday June 25, Laurence Dr. Sweetman and Mata B. Hannah, both of Choteau, were wed. He formerly worked for Continental Oil Co and now with J. S. Case Machinery Co in Great Falls, based from Chalmers Garage. She moved from Great Falls and has lived in Choteau since earlier this year. They will reside at the Glenloyd Hotel.
