Pioneer Ed Dennis of the Teton Valley and His Cattle Era
Ed Dennis, born August 1, 1845 in Knoxville Tennessee, became a leading early settler in the Chateau area of Teton County Montana. A Confederate veteran, he moved west with cattle and freighting work, partnered with Sam Burd and Main, and built a notable homestead on Spring Creek. He helped brand cattle with a shield dot and contributed to local politics as a county commissioner in 1906, naming streams and shaping the region’s cattle industry before selling the ranch in 1920.
