Federal ruling says federal land grab in Montana illegal

Attorney General Harrison J. Freebourn writes that the federal government holds wildfowl sanctuary land illegally because Montana has not passed an enabling act. The opinion centers on Red Rock lakes refuge in Beaverhead county where the federal Biological Survey bought land and created a duck and goose refuge against sportsmen groups’ wishes. The ruling notes the state legislature has repeatedly defeated measures to authorize land acquisition for sanctuaries.
