Crazy Day Winners Named After One Day Event
Last Saturday's Crazy Day drew shoppers despite heat with morning crowds. Costume winners were Jim Arensmeyer first, Mrs. Jack Rogers second, Ron Hinman third. children's division had multipleplacers including Deane Stott, Mona Kay Hanson, Jody Sander, Cheryl Neilson, and others. Chamber president Chester Abbott thanks merchants, clerks, and the public, with special mentions to Dean Brumberger for amplification and Chateau Ford Sales for assistance.

Trenching and Dump Contract Awarded to Tom Snyder
The Chateau City Council accepted Tom Snyder's low bid of 14500 to trench, maintain the dump, and cover garbage. The project includes hauling 60 percent of gravel, backfilling with two feet of topsoil, daily compaction and coverage, plus cleanup of windblown waste. Other bids were Ramaker Construction 17990 and Eldon Cook 16700.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Banks Chapel for Oscar J Erickson 76 who died Friday July 30 at Chateau Interment followed in Farmington Cemetery. Jack Wryn officiated Pallbearers were John Seman Henry Seman Harold Cook Joe Seman Leslie Chalmers Roger Stradley He lived in Chateau 1927 1936 and Fairfield later retiring three years ago Survivors include his widow daughters and a brother Laurence of Virginia Minnesota

Simmental Day at State Fair Highlights Friday Program
Friday August 6 marks Simmental Day at the State Fair in Great Falls with a pen of 22 cross breed cattle on display all week. A free program at 2 pm features Dan Vaniman of the American Simmental Association, Jesse Kilgore of the Montana Simmental Association, and Claire Willets on cross breeding. Ranchers showing include Stewart Schwartz Fairfield John Loch Dutton Jesse Malone Choteau Doug DeBoe Ranch Stanford Fisher Ranch Conrad and Flying U Ranch Choteau with Walter Malone serving as display chairman.

Huck Finn Day Draws Large Crowd in Choteau Park
More than 100 area youngsters joined Huck Finn Day at Choteau City Park on Sunday. Milford Wearley won a bicycle as grand prize for the biggest catch weighing an odd 834 ounces, part of about 250 dollars in prizes. Winners included top anglers in each age group plus costume contest honors for Elaine Shepherd and Clinton Snyder. Ben Hoge led the Jaycees as sponsor and thanked supporters and helpers including Jayceons for refreshments and Bob Scott for prize selection.

Shooters Damage Tractor Near Fairfield
Teton County sheriffs investigated a report of a tractor damaged by gunfire northeast of Fairfield. Pear son Brothers own the tractor which had windows shot out and the grill and muffler holed. The unit sustained 13 hits from a .22 calibre gun as deputies follow several leads.

Choteau Outswims Eleven Teams To Win 15th Annual Invite
The 15th annual Lions Club Swim Meet at Choteau pool drew 595 swimmers and 50 divers over the weekend. Fort Benton led diving with 59 points, while Choteau claimed varsity supremacy Sunday with 512½ points to win their fourth major 1971 season title. Top individuals included Skip Lines and John Nordhagen, who earned high point awards, with Nordhagen setting a state class B butterfly record.

Ottawa High School choir from Ottawa Illinois plans a 16 day 5 000 mile summer concert tour through northwestern states and Canada. The group directed by B J Muus will sing daily at venues including Trinity Lutheran Church.

Wilkie Services Held Monday in Chateau
Funeral services for 81 year old Fred Wilkie were held Monday at the United Methodist Church in Chateau with Rev. Allen Adams officiating. Zwerneman Mortuary handled arrangements and pallbearers included Tim Jolliffe and Arlie Jolliffe among others. Burial followed in Chateau Cemetery. Wilkie, born November 22, 1889 in Fergus Falls Minnesota, farmed in North Dakota until retiring to Chateau in 1952. His wife died in 1969. Survivors include two sons Vern and Ray, two daughters Lucille McMasters and Evaline Carpenter, nineteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
