Cabbage Acreage in Muscatine Area Falls Short
Cabbage acreage in the Muscatine district drops to an estimated 600 acres planted this year from about 2 200 in prior years. Planting is roughly half done and growth appears strong on plants that have been set. Weather has been cool and not ideal, delaying planting by a week to ten days. Most growers expect completing planting by late next week with movement from the area starting late June or early July. Sweet potato and cantaloupe acreage remain similar to last year but planting slowed by cool weather.
