University of Iowa first religion program in nation
The University of Iowa School of Religion, founded in 1927 as a department, became the nation’s first religion program at a tax supported institution. It now enrolls 1,211 students, taught by 14 full time and two part time professors. A senior center meal program serves one hot meal daily five days weekly, funded from Older American Act resources via Hawkeye Valley Agency. A modern kitchen and day care facility support both programs with 20 to 25 preschoolers and infant care, while alleged Indian elder wisdom lines the poster wall.
