Cossack Best With Alfalfa In Iowa Tests

Hardy alfalfa from seed of known origin topped four varieties in northeast Iowa plots on the Harvey Debes farm near Farmersburg. Cossack yielded 6 316 pounds per acre green weight, ahead of Oklahoma and Nebraska Common and Argentina, the latter lowest at 1 089 pounds. The tests show hardy adapted legumes provide more high nitrogen hay and longer lived stands, aiding soil conservation and reducing reseeding costs.
