West Liberty to offer Spanish for elementary pupils

West Liberty school board backed after school conversational Spanish classes for grades 2 through 4 to start next year. Up to four teachers will be paid 600 each to run beginning and advanced courses for about 50 students in West Liberty and Nichols buildings.

Drunk Driving Charges In Johnson County Arrests

Johnson County arrests list motorists charged with drunk driving including Sammie Sears Thomas Chapman Moor and Richard Meer. The report also notes May arrests across Iowa City Coralville North Liberty and rural areas with addresses ages and arrest times. Man sues Cedar Rapids over lost Harley after arrest

Steven Moore files a 20000 lawsuit in Linn District Court naming the city of Cedar Rapids and officers Tim Huston and Roger Elder as defendants. He says the 1950 Harley Davidson motorcycle was taken from Bever Park June 1 1981 after his arrest for public intoxication and remains unrecovered. Moore seeks 3000 for the motorcycle 2000 for loss of use and 15000 in punitive damages, alleging willful reckless disregard for his property rights.

Garage Fire Damages Shueyville Home and Garage

A fire that began in a garage and breezeway at the Robert and Barbara Pauley residence in Shueyville caused extensive smoke damage to the house. Fire crews from Swisher Ely and North Liberty contained the blaze about 10 30 a m with no injuries reported and an investigation ongoing into the cause.

Ex-policewoman to get damages from Cedar Rapids crash

Deborah Lebeda, a former Cedar Rapids policewoman, will receive 12500 for injuries from a June 1980 rear-end collision while she was a passenger. The driver, Robert L. Ament Jr., agreed to pay but did not admit fault. Linn District Court Judge Larry Conmey approved the award. Lebeda later suffered more injuries in a August 1980 incident and was fired in March 1982 amid retirement disability disputes.

Son frees father from under tractor near Hedrick

Martinsburg man Richard Withers age 43 was pinned under a tractor at the junction of Highways 21 and 149 west of Hedrick. He was rescued by his son who rocked the tractor to free him and then walked to a Keokuk County ambulance that took him to Ottumwa Memorial Hospital where he was listed in stable condition. The accident occurred at 11 40 a m Thursday.
