Marion citizens back Boyson and Alburnett road extensions
After eight meetings a Marion advisory committee formally recommends extending Boyson from Alburnett to Indian Creek Road two lanes and prioritizing construction while avoiding four lanes. Alburnett would extend from Boyson to Eighth Avenue through parks, with 29th Avenue linked later, and sidewalks and safety fixes urged on Indian Creek Road.

A nine member committee examined options for connecting northeast Marion to northeast Cedar Rapids. Evaluation factors included traffic and pedestrian patterns, neighborhood character, environmental quality, public services, project coordination and cost effectiveness. Data from IDOT Marion staff and Shire-Hattery informed projections to 1995, including the Marion bypass of Highway 151.

Pickup camper rear-ended by grain truck causes injuries
Lester P. Jurgens, 37, of 2550 11th Ave., suffered minor injuries in a two vehicle crash at Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street at 6:55 a.m. He was treated at Mercy Hospital. Robert Mohr, 26, of Hopkinton, drove the grain truck and is charged with failure to control. He faces Marion Magistrate's Court on June 30. Police estimate vehicle damage at $2,000.
