Benton rejects demolition bids for two schools
Benton Community school board rejected bids to demolish the former Benton Community High School and the Newhall school minus the gymnasium as too high. The district will rebid April 13 at 7 p.m. and offer salvage rights to bidders. The board also approved a 25 year $1 lease with Newhall for land south of the school to enable a government grant to turn it into a park.
Checks Stolen From Locker At Central YMCA
Traveler's checks totaling 400 dollars were stolen from a locker Thursday at the Central YMCA located at First Avenue and Fifth Street NE. The checks belonged to John A. Hart of 3123 Parkview Court SE and were taken between 1 30 and 2 p.m.

Tools Stolen From Shed At Bowling Street Home

Cedar Rapids appoints new city assessor

Burglary Charges Filed After Victim Identifies Suspect
