Cable barriers cut fatalities on interstates expanding to I 380
Iowa safety bid expands cable median barriers to I 380 from Wright Brothers Boulevard SW to Blairs Ferry Road NE at about 1.5 million dollars. Officials say cables cut fatalities by cross median crashes and also cause more minor crashes. A resident recalls a close call on I 35 where a semi crossed the median. The system costs around 100 000 dollars per mile and is praised for saving lives despite some vehicle damage.

Marriage Debate Focus Remains On Finances In Iowa Legislature
Murphy started circulating a discharge petition to move Senate Joint Resolution 2001 from committee but only 18 GOP senators and Sen. Tom Hancock Democrat from Epworth signed, short of the 26 votes needed for debate. In the House, a call of the House failed to pull House Joint Resolution 6 from committee to the debate calendar, 45-54, with Rep. Dolores Mertz voting with Republicans. Leaders said no debate this session, arguing the focus should be economic growth and jobs, with a promised jobs package later this month.
