United States faces broad pushback over Jerusalem policy
The Trump administration struggles to contain international backlash after recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital and moving the embassy. Allies including Egypt, Jordan, Britain, France and Japan criticize the move as shortsighted while U S diplomats warn against cuts to United Nations funding. The U N General Assembly votes 128 to 9 with 35 abstentions in opposition to the action, a display of unprecedented U S isolation on the issue. U S Ambassador Nikki Haley defends the decision and vows continued pursuit of a Middle East peace process.
