Pay ranges from a shilling per square yard weekly for cutters to 4 shillings to 8 shillings for wheel rent in grinding, plus 4 pence per shilling earned for tool wear. Ill or idle workers must still pay, and slack periods can be used to enforce charges. A Yankee voice warns against adopting such free trade policies in the United States.
