Jasper Parish visits family while residents make trips to Indianapolis and Cincinnati. Birth notices, marriages planned in Indianapolis, and a major rail time change are noted along with local church events and a large obituary for Lena McCarty of Carthage. Community events include a Children’s Day program and a temperance union service.
A meeting will be held at Melodeon Hall on Saturday afternoon June 20 at two o'clock to ratify the National Republican convention action from St Louis on June 16. Good speakers will address the gathering and invite all Republicans to attend.

Benjamin Frazee a leading Rush county landowner died at his northeast Rushville home after a brief illness. Post mortem showed acute yellow atrophy with liver reduction and small intestine inflammation, denying poisoning. Frazee born 1824 Bracken County Kentucky moved to Indiana in 1829, built a 2500 acre estate worth about $200,000. Five Frazee family deaths occurred in five and a half months, including his wife and son.
An Iowa man’s boy of twelve discharged a shotgun while loading it on a veranda at Caspar C. Craige’s home near Manilla. Mrs Craige, age 45 and mother of thirteen, was struck in the chest and neck area. Doctors say recovery hopes remain after removing the load and wadding. the incident occurred Wednesday morning.
