Members met Tuesday at Geise's restaurant with Clyde Ruby presiding. Mrs. Ruby reported the secretary and treasurer figures. A Thanksgiving chicken and turkey Give-Away is set for Saturday November 18. Parvel Moore and Harry Leadbetter join the nominating committee for new officers.
The Carthage East St. Christian Church will observe Family Day this Sunday October 14 with Rev. Richard Welker of Milroy Christian Church as guest speaker. A basket dinner will follow at noon.
Mr and Mrs Eugene I Gardner and Mr and Mrs Kenneth Rhodes attended the Indiana Wisconsin football game in Bloomington Saturday and visited Dean Gardner after the game. Dean is a freshman at IU and serves in the Air Corps ROTC band this year. Both the IU and Wisconsin bands performed before the game and at halftime.
Bradley Conley and Bonnie Dyer, both 18, were married Saturday evening by Lon McCorkle, Justice of the Peace.
Mrs Roy Stanley and several Carthage residents attended Friends night Friday at the Masonic Hall in Rushville. The gathering included Mrs Raymond Kennedy Mrs Paul Crey idence and Mrs Gene Wilson among those present.
Lowell Leisure found a bright red card attached to a balloon from a Balloon Derby in St. Louis on September 26. The card instructed returning it with the date found October 3, six days after release, and promised a prize for the farthest return.
Mr and Mrs Harold Ruby spent the weekend in Bloomington visiting their son David Ruby at the Phi Gamma Delta House for Dad s Day activities They attended the IU Wisconsin football game and the Saturday night Pop Concert On Sunday David Ruby and Kelly Veach joined them for dinner at the Abe Martin Lodge in Brown County State Park
Carthage area residents and former residents attended the World Series in Cincinnati on Saturday and Sunday. George and Russell Roland, Ross Manche, Charles Roland, Bob Stephens, Larry Morris, Charles Morris, and Larry Morris junior were among locals. Mike and Marvin Heim also attended Monday with other regional fans from Willow Branch and Avilla.
Bradley Conley 18 and Bonnie Dyer 18 both of Carthage obtained a marriage license. Conley works as a farm worker and Dyer is a resident of Carthage. The union is officially recorded in local public records.
Mr and Mrs Ray Leisure of R. R. 2 Carthage welcomed a baby girl on Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Miekush and others hosted Rev. and Mrs. Gene Lewis and son from Indianapolis for Sunday dinner. Numerous families across Rushville and vicinity were seen at church services, dinners, and weekend visits with relatives in Brownsburg Indianapolis Laporte and Anderson.
Purdue University announces agronomist Gil bert Walker formerly of Purdue will visit Rush County on Thursday in October to discuss farming methods and crop insights. Walker is noted for expertise in soil health and yield optimization.
Robert Harrold son of Mr and Mrs Richard Harrold R R J Carthage was elected secretary of Club 25 Co op at Purdue University He will keep weekly meeting minutes handle club communications and liaise with housing units and University offices A senior in agriculture he previously served as work chairman and received a scholarship key from SCA The co op units aim to cut college expenses through family style housing managed by a house mother and student workers The fourteen co ops belong to the Student Co operative Association which also sponsors contests candidates and recreational activities
Gary Siler son of Mr and Mrs Russell Siler spent the weekend home from Tri State College at Angola Indiana during a short break returned to campus after the visit
Report from different Indiana regions notes fishing improving with clear waters in northwest and central zones. White and Wabash Rivers vary from murky to clear. crappie, bluegill, bass, channel cat, and carp observed using minnows, doughballs, cheese bait, worms, and artificial lures. Lakes like Geist Reservoir and Lake Freeman report especially good fishing with multiple species active.
Russell Raymond Reddick, 68, died at 4 30 p m Thursday at the Jackson Nursing Home in Rushville. Survivors include daughter Mrs Maxine Riggs of near Carthage and son Eugene Reddick of Carthage, two granddaughters Dixie Gabbard and Rhonda Reddick. Funeral arrangements pending. Hampton Mortuary of Carthage to handle services.
Bertram Howard Post 316 American Legion met at the Community Center on Wednesday night. Vice Commander Roy Whitton of Greenfield and membership chairman for 10th District spoke and presented pictures and movies from the National Legion convention and Denver parade. Don Kinnerly of Morristown, another 10th District vice-commander, attended. Refreshments were served.
Mesdames George Moore Forrest Moore Luther Hull Joanna Gibson Mae Welsh Josie Nigh and Lesta Heifner attended an all day meeting and cooperative dinner last Wednesday of the Rush County Missionary Societies held at the Main St Christian Church in Rush.
The Carthage Lions Club met at the community center for a dinner meeting with Lion Tom Shields presiding in president Leonard Jackson’s absence. Robert Kendall gave the invocation. Ira Hopper guest speaker discussed radio controlled model planes. John Nelson outlined the United Fund setup for the townships.
CHS news covers election of Pam Hunt as class secretary and yell leaders for 61 62 including seniors Jane Hunt and Pam Hunt Marilyn Pitts Cindy Brooks with alternates Janice Todd Kay Davis. Fall sports final standings show baseball three wins four losses and cross country three wins one loss with sixth in conference and second in county. Eldon Jackson wins batting trophy with .375 average, Gateswood and Patterson follow. Home Ec classes repaint room and craft drapes for windows and office.
