One Unit School Plan Approved by State Committee
Rush County Commission of School Reorganization approved the one unit plan which the State Committee has endorsed. The plan faced opposition at hearings, and objectors have limited recourse. If 55 percent sign a petition in favor of endorsing the state report, the plan moves ahead next year. otherwise the county board must notify the Judge of the Circuit Court to order an election, possibly in May. A 90 day petition period is allowed, and a special election would cost the county funds.

Three motor vehicle incidents in Carthage and vicinity caused property damage with no serious injuries. Junior Gulley 37 of Carthage drove off an embankment on Knightstown road and was treated at Rush Memorial Hospital. Donnie Stephens and Kenneth Money also crashed near the S curve and Main Street, Money later fined for public intoxication after a county seat altercation.

Arthur Walter a retired California educator and former Carthage resident died Wednesday at his Sanger home. Funeral services are set for Friday at 10 p.m. Graveside rites will be held Tuesday October 10 at Walnut Ridge cemetery. He and Mrs Walter celebrated their 50th anniversary in June at the Friends church after a recent three month trip.
