Mr and Mrs Marcus McClurg visited Ball State Teachers College Muncie with son Randy on Sunday. In the evening they called on Mr and Mrs Ed Bly and son Frank at Farmland.
Mrs Jesse Addison left Rush Memorial hospital this week and returned to her home following an eye surgery performed there.
Gray Tweedy son of Mr and Mrs Jack Tweedy fell last week and broke the forefinger on his right hand at a local incident.
Marine Cpl. Jack A. Smith, son of Mr and Mrs Finley C Smith Sr, Route 1 Carthage Indiana, serves aboard the anti-submarine warfare carrier Yorktown. The ship, part of the Seventh Fleet, joins Third Marine Division units in Exercise Warm-Up amphibious drill in the Okinawa area.
Revival services begin Sunday October 22 at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Carthage and run two weeks led by evangelist Rev. Charles Cowan of Converse. Pastor C. C. Fields invites the public to attend all services.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Mosier came home last Friday after a two week trip to Arkansas. They spent four days with Mrs William Smith and Mr Smith in Jonesboro and with Mrs Mae Landers in Harrisburg. They joined Mr and Mrs Wilbur McCorkle at Conway Lake for over a week, as the McCorkles were away ten days before returning last Thursday.
County Treasurer Virgil Grinstead announced extra hours to aid taxpayers. The office will open Saturday afternoons and noon hours from Monday through November 6, though it is normally locked at noon.
Teens threaten Halloween safety with pranks causing destruction and car hazards. A senior class play titled The Ghost of Gobbler's Knob is set for November 2 and 3 at the Community Center with a cast including Grandma Malone and a long list of town residents.
Mrs Richard Beise and her three children of Starke Florida have taken up residence at Carthage R 2 at the new home built by her parents Mr and Mrs Russell Shutt. Mrs Beise's husband was suddenly killed in the middle of September at Starke Florida.
Fletcher Methodist Church of Carthage sets Rally Day for Sunday October 29 with a special program. Friends are invited to attend.
Gary R. Siler son of Mr and Mrs J Russell Siler 202 N East Street Carthage is among new students at Tri State College Angola Indiana for the fall quarter He majors in Motor Transportation Administration in the School of Business and the program is endorsed by the American Trucking Associations Dean Gardner a freshman at Indiana University and member of the LU Marching Hundred Band is also in ROTC band
Paul E. Turner of Carthage is a junior at Marion College in Marion Indiana. The college reports 453 students this year from 28 states and three foreign countries across 25 denominations. An evening school started with 72 enrollees. Operated by the Wesleyan Methodist Church since 1920 the college offers liberal arts with pathways to ministry and public school teaching, aiming to fuse an active Christian faith with scholarship.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hampton Mortuary for Russell Ray mond Reddick 68, a Carthage area resident and retired farmer who died October 12 after fifteen months of illness. He was born December 8, 1892 in Rush County. Survived by daughter Maxine Riggs and son Eugene, two grandchildren Dixie Lee Gabbard and Rhonda Lee Reddick. He was a member of East Street Christian Church. Rev. Robert Kendall officiated. burial at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knights Town.
Mrs Hugh Weber Mrs Thomas Bush and Mrs Harold Ruby attended the Scottish Rite Ladies Luncheon in Indianapolis on Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs A W Winfield of Carthage completed a ten day trip to Rochester New York visiting their daughter Mrs Fred I Doebber and sons Tom and Jon.
Mrs Kenneth Rhodes and Mrs Frank Hampton attended the American Legion Auxiliary Presidents and Secretaries Conference in Indianapolis. The event ran 9 am to 4 pm at the War Memorial Shrine with a conference dinner at Claypool Hotel for over 300 attendees. A 45 minute musical program by Knightstown Soldiers and Sailors Home children featured tap and orchestra numbers. The National President of the American Legion Auxiliary spoke at the evening session.
East Street Christian Church groups met Monday night Oct 16 1961 at 7 00 for singing and prayer. I H S Chi Rho and C Y F studied separately with teachers and offered 40 30 and 20 cents respectively. All three groups joined for the Prayer Circle. all are welcome. Jeanie Stapp News Reporter
Real estate activity in Rush County climbs to 280000 in September despite no farm sales. Rushville City property reach 170000 while suburban and small town lots and tracts total 110000. The previous September record stood at 286000. Notable transfers include Jesse Howard to James Wells in Carthage and Gordon Sparks to Dale and Lettie May in Carthage.
The Carthage Lions Club invites members to gather at the Community Center at 1:30 p.m. Sunday for the annual walnut collection project.
Mr and Mrs Howard Windsor and daughter Dawn visited Kelly Beach at Indiana University and attended First Christian Church on Sunday. Dinner guest was David Ruby of LA.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Carthage Nazarene Church for Lillie May Donoho 59 who died Sunday night at her Carthage home after a year of ill health. She was born May 6 1902 in Sevierville County Tennessee to Wilson M and Evie Wilson Thomas. Survived by husband Lewis Donoho two sons Oscar of Carthage and Merle in Iceland two daughters Fay Hutchens of Anderson and three grandchildren. Burial at Hannegan Cemetery with Hampton Mortuary in charge.
Albert Terhune and son John Nie Jeannine Terhune and Lou Magee attended the football game between Manchester College and Taylor University at Taylor. They visited James Terhune, a Taylor senior. The Miss Jeannine Terhune and Lou Magee were overnight guests and the Terhune family returned to Upland Sunday to escort them home.
Marshall G. Monk, 22, of Jacksonville Florida, U S Army, married Norma J. Sipes, 21, of Carthage, a secretary. Bobby L. Fancher, 24, of Arlington, a meat cutter, wed Betty C. Cooley, 23, of Arlington, a secretary.
Bayard Baker of Carthage joined Valparaiso University homecoming festivities last Friday. He and former roommate A. O. Husband of Cleveland, Ohio, recalling their 1902-1903 years at Valparaiso, spent the weekend together for an enjoyable reunion.
During Festival week a panel could not choose winners in Community Center Fund categories. Twelve men were photographed by Porter, a local photographer, as bearded gentlemen posing after the contest. Joe E. donated their prize money to Porter. They are to be honored for their sportsmanship.
