Scrub-Bull Eradication Campaigns Boost Pure-Bred Bulls
United States Department of Agriculture reports scrub-bull eradication campaigns are improving cattle quality across counties. In Hopkins County Kentucky a survey of 850 farms found 1,924 mature grade cows and 101 pure-bred cows, with over 80 percent bred to scrub bulls. A campaign banquet drew 114 attendees and 1,632 total participants at 30 meetings. Fifteen bulls were sold in one week, many from dams with strong registry. Similar efforts in Buncombe North Carolina and Chester County South Carolina placed bulls and spurred pledges to eliminate scrub bulls, with more prospects noted.
